Dear All Saints and St Mary's
Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful people, and kindle in us the fire of your love!
What a happy coincidence that Pentecost and the Queen's Platinum Jubilee should collide in an extravaganza of celebration and thanksgiving. This opening Gospel Sentence - a prayer to the Spirit - captures particular words linked to our thanksgiving for our Queen Elizabeth II. The word 'faithful' lies at the heart of the Queen's 70 years of service.
Fire reminds us of the Beacons we have seen lit across the UK and the Commonwealth to celebrate her Jubilee. Of course, fire and wind are two of the key symbols signalling the arrival of the Holy Spirit, who breathes the fire of love into hearts and binds us together across our differences.
I pray that the joy and harmony and love you have experienced during this weekend will flow into the weeks and months ahead. Echoing stirring words from her Majesty's Jubilee Message, may the Holy Spirit embolden us as individuals and as churches to 'look to the future with confidence and enthusiasm'.
