Dear All Saints and St Marys
It has been great to be back in the parish for the past week and lovely to catch up with people as and when I have seen them or spoken on the phone. I also hope that if you are still away that you are being blessed with good things. If you haven’t been able to get away this summer then I hope that home has been a safe and pleasant haven.
This week our services are
10.30am – “Cafe Style” Service at All Saints
6.30pm – Holy Communion at St Marys
I have been pondering in the week how it might be possible to “do” café church. Was it even possible? There are not specific guidelines that fit the particular type of service. In many ways I was very keen to be outside again, but the weather indicates that might be difficult. Therefore we have set the church so that there are chairs with small tables 2 metres apart that people can sit and rest a cup of coffee or mug of tea on. These could, like in other coffee shops be occupied by one person, one family group or two people/families but no more than 2 households.
In terms of refreshments then the answer to this conundrum could people bring their own breakfast picnic! It might be fun to see what people prefer! We can provide cups (left in its place when you leave) and there will be a few pre packed breakfast items in case people forget.
I want to use one of the DVD’s of Rob Bells thoughts from his Nooma collection - as its always good to put a face and voice to the name of the author! And instead of some discussion a couple of people have been invited to share a little of what their thoughts are around their favourite bible passage or a question that they have been asking around the Bible and their thoughts.
It will be different to normal “café church” but nevertheless I hope it contains some of the elements that bring us together in this way. Face coverings in enclosed spaces are still mandatory, bar the exceptions, so you will still need these with you to wear in between supping your beverage!
